Aufgrund der alternden Bev\u00f6lkerung ist zu erwarten, dass die H\u00e4ufigkeit in den kommenden zwei Jahrzehnten noch zunehmen wird. Die hohe Mortalit\u00e4tsrate wird verursacht durch den stillen Krankheitsverlauf, bei dem Symptome erst in sp\u00e4ten Krankheitsstadien auftreten, wenn die Erfolgsaussichten einer Therapie gering sind. Kolorektalkrebs ist bei fr\u00fchzeitiger Erkennung sehr gut heilbar und kann durch Entfernen von pr\u00e4kanzer\u00f6sen Vorstufen, sogenannten adenomat\u00f6sen Polypen, sogar verhindert werden.<\/p>\n<p>Die meisten kolorektalen Karzinome entwickeln sich sehr langsam im Verlauf mehrerer Jahre. Die Vorstufe sind oftmals gutartige L\u00e4sionen, die sich im Lauf der Zeit zu Kolorektalkrebs entwickeln k\u00f6nnen. Lokale, auf die Dickdarmwand begrenzte Tumoren, lassen sich oft vollst\u00e4ndig chirurgisch entfernen. \u00dcber 90 % aller Patienten, deren Erkrankung in diesem fr\u00fchen Stadium diagnostiziert wird, \u00fcberleben die Krankheit. Bleibt der Krebs jedoch unbehandelt, breitet er sich aus und die \u00dcberlebensrate sinkt auf 70\u00a0%. Sobald der Krebs Metastasen ausbildet, f\u00e4llt die \u00dcberlebensrate auf 10%<sup><small>2<\/small><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Die Europ\u00e4ische Kommission<sup><small>3<\/small><\/sup>\u00a0und die Krebsliga Schweiz<sup><small>4<\/small><\/sup>\u00a0eempfehlen f\u00fcr Personen mit durchschnittlichem Risiko ab dem 50. Lebensjahr regelm\u00e4ssige Vorsorgeuntersuchungen als Grundlage der m\u00f6glichst fr\u00fchen Erkennung und Behandlung von Kolorektalkrebs. In Europa wird zurzeit die Kolorektalkrebs-Fr\u00fcherkennung mittels Kolonoskopie und f\u00e4kaler okkulter Bluttests empfohlen. Aufgrund der damit verbundenen Unannehmlichkeiten und der Furcht vor invasiven Massnahmen ist die Teilnahme gef\u00e4hrdeter Bev\u00f6lkerungsgruppen an den entsprechenden Screening-Programmen jedoch alarmierend gering. Das Ergebnis ist eine unn\u00f6tige und vermeidbare hohe Inzidenz- und Mortalit\u00e4tsrate von Kolorektalkrebs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Aufgrund fehlender Aufkl\u00e4rung, zu grosser Sorglosigkeit, der m\u00f6glichen Unannehmlichkeiten solcher Untersuchungen oder der Furcht vor invasiven Massnahmen bel\u00e4uft sich der Anteil der Personen ab 50\u00a0Jahren in der Schweiz, die die Vorsorgeuntersuchungen wahrnehmen, leider auf lediglich 30\u00a0%.
